Railmed – About Us
Railmed is a closed Medical Aid Society formed in 1970. It is incorporated in terms of the Medical Services Act (15:13) and governed by the Railmed Constitution. It has a membership of 11 175 restrictively drawn from the Railways community. The organization runs a five-tier medical aid scheme with each scheme’s benefits directly correlating with its level of contribution. In addition to external service providers in the industry, members have access to surgery, radiology, pharmacy and physiotherapy services provided at internal service provision points in the four major centers of Bulawayo, Harare, Gweru and Mutare. It also distributes medicines to its members through NRZ clinics scattered across the Railways network.
Joining Rail Medical Aid Society (Railmed) has its unique advantages.
The member and/or beneficiary
- The principal member is at liberty to choose different schemes for beneficiaries allowing the member freedom to choose schemes to suit their pocket, thereby managing their membership.
- There is no discrimination against one’s age or health status. In fact members/beneficiaries are not requested to declare their health status when joining.
- Being part of a large membership base translates to a larger pool of resources. It therefore gives peace of mind knowing that you are covered for unforeseen incidents.
- As far as healthcare facilities, a Railmed member has guaranteed access to health service provision at any of the Railmed facilities.
Railmed has been around for over 5 decades, is rich with expertise and has stood the test of time and still continues to go further in bringing value to the member and their beneficiaries.
